KEVIN WARWICK

Professor of Cybernetics at Reading University Kevin Warwick will be talking about his book I, Cyborg, and the remarkable-experiment it describes. Earlier this year, Kevin Warwick had a computer chip surgically inserted into his central nervous system. A key part of the experiment involves the hope that emotions and experiences can be read in terms of patterns of nervous excitement from the chip to the computer, recorded, then beamed back to the chip and

' re-experienced. In this incredibly exciting and potentially groundbreaking experiment, Kevin'Warwick is changing forever just what it means to be human.

Historian Fred Reid will be talking about his book In Search of Willie Patterson, a family history as well as a history of Glasgow. Musing on the history of his family, Reid came to focus on his grandfather, Willie Patterson. Estranged from Willie by his womanising, Reid's mother had woven a‘legend of ’the black sheep of the family’ which he decided to research and evaluate. This book tells the story of Reid's quest to understand the grandfather he never knew.
