0 Disco X at the Soundhaus.

l lpm—5am. £8 (£6 members). 10 Aug. The progressive retro sound of Disco X returns with the usual confusion of disco. funk. house and electro. Residents Dandy. Daz and the delightfully named Spanned X take care of business. Thrid birthday time so expect more of the same but raised to another level with a few surprises that they won‘t even tell us about.

It‘s been going strong since l‘)9() and is officially the longest running residency in Glasgow. so they know how to work a crowd with industrial strength funk. This month sees their twelfth birthday (10 Aug). so get up here to get down. I Freetorm at Barfly (formerly the 13th Note Club). 9pm—3am. Free before 10.30pm; £5 (£4) after. Weekly. ()ne of the longest running clubs in town. and it‘s all thanks to the Watt brothers and their selection of 60s soul. 70s funk and the odd curveball to keep things interesting.

I Havana Esperito at (‘anvas (Arta). 8pm—midnight. £7. Weekly. A night of sophisticated Latino class. DJ Jazz brings his box of tricks to the Merchant City‘s newest venue. Canvas. where there’s no dedicated dancefloor. but there is classy service and an elegant. laid-back vibe for those who‘ve had enough of sweat with their salsa.

0 Higher Ground at the CCA. l().3()pm—3am. £10 (£8). to Aug. Monthly. Higher Ground augment the deep house and techno of local musicians and djs. such as resident Gianni (Haptic). Internationally acclaimed guests build the experience. as do visual entertainment. created by local artists. are also on display and will complement the vibrant ethos of the club. I Homecookin at Babaza. Free before I lpm; £5 after. Weekly. DJs Stewart McCallum and Joe Higgins keep the music jammin’ and the dance floorjumpin‘ all night long. R&B tracks mixed with the odd classic and old-skool favourites. Just watch out for football players.

I Inspire at the Velvet Rooms. l()pm—3am. £3 before midnight; £6 (£4) after. Weekly. Keith Pyper breaks out the funky house and garage in the main room while Raymond Woods cools things down with hip hop and R&B in room two.

I Jamboree at Reds. l lpm--3am. £7 (£5). Weekly. John Lyons and Martin Hesketh of Velvet Rooms fame mix up a blend of commercial R&B and soul. I Life at Life (Corinthian). l()pm—3am. £5. Weekly. A formidable night of funk for those who like their entertainment mature. but still jammin‘. DJ Skud. Paul Rea and Ian Thomson present a selection of soul. funk and disco augmented with original samples and loops to guarantee a new take on familiar sounds.

I Lush at the Polo Lounge. l().3()pm—3am. £5. Weekly. Featuring Andy in the Trophy Room with hits from the 60s to the 80s. while Tom provides an up-front dance selection in the main room at the city‘s prettiest gay club.

I Missing Link at Ad Lib. llpm—3am. £5. Monthly. 1 1 Aug. The very best of hip hop. nu jazz and R&B mixed up by two of Glasgow's finest: Paul Cawley and Naeem. And all in this great. intimate venue.

I My Machines at Glasgow School of Art. I lpm—3am. £6 (£5—£4). Weekly. They‘ve had some of the greatest names in techno come and bless their decks. so they know how to mash it up. Be here now with Hamish and Wilkes.

HOUSE/TECHNO HIGHERGROUHD CCA, Glasgow, Sat 10 Aug

Revamped. relocated and fully licensed. the CCA in Glasgow didn't have a £10.2m refit just to hang up a few nice pictures. Sense has been seen and the directorate generals have deCided what Glasgow needs more than a man selling outdoor spas is a new club night. What else raises the Spirits more in a rainy August than a new place to go for some boogie: w0rd spreads round. old faces reappear and the Saturday night palette suddenly Widens. Welcome to HigherGround. the Centre for

Contemporary Arts new club night.

‘The mUSICai emphasis is on finding new people who play the world over.‘ says HigherGround's promoter Lee Duncan. ‘Well respected but still emerging Dds who have never played in Britain before. never mind Glasgow. As fer the venue we're a smaller space than most of the car parks artields that are regarded as good clubs.”

Thankfully no planes can be parked n the chic minimal venue of the CCA which stands in wait for a full assault of chilled clubbers to experience the varying frolics of visual animations. psychedelic backdrops and top tunes. Fresh from glowing reviews at the Sonar Festival in Barcelona and recently remixed by Funk D'Void. the awesome John Tejada flies in from his hometown of LA to kick off HigherGround. Tejada is a prolific producer With his own label. studio and club who along With long time collaborator Adrian LeViste has released numerous melodic. crisp and funky

techno records on labels throughout Europe and the US. Local boy Gianni has landed

the plum job of HigherGround reSident. Respected for keeping his tunes low and below the belt. Gianni is looking forward to what a contemporary arts venue can offer in terms of clubbing it.

I Relief at Alaska. 1 lpm—3am. £8 (£6). 10 Aug. Monthly. Current darlings of the Ibiza circuit thanks to their Right ()2: track. amongst other things. Silicone Soul return on this night for some good house action down on the Soma farm. I Remedy at Ad Lib. t lpm—4am. £5. Weekly. Davey Thomson. Colin Davey and someone without Davey in his name Owen Caldwell get into the tech- house groove with the Ad Lib massive. I The Shed at the Shed. l().3(lpm—2am. £6. Weekly. Demand is high for this one. so get there early. Tuneage deployed by DJ Raymond Davren in the main hall . R&B aficionado Chris Hesketh in the Loft.

I Soulsa at MAS. llpm—3am. £8. Weekly. Andy and Shae D take over where Subculture leave off. with their lovely blend of house. funk. disco and Latino. Good recuperation.

O Wumph at the Tunnel.

Colin Tevendale and Steven McCreery supply the dressed-up glamour kids with progressive house and trance in the main room. while Kevin MacFarlane and Stephen Lee mix up garage. disco and vocal house in room two. If you‘re not wearing awfully nice clothes. however. don‘t expect to get in.

I Motun at Budda. l lpm—3am. £7 (£5). Weekly. Budda squeezes Geoff Montford and Chris Harris to carpet bomb (and yes. there are carpets involved) the central city venue with the kind of house tracks that would start a riot on either side of the Atlantic.
