HIGH FIVE

five favourite drummers.

AL MURRAY, it creator of the v Pub Landlord, ’j‘ \ chooses his h .. .

1 Ringo Starr If he'd been good at the drums. the Beatles would have been very different. He kept them earthed.

2 Bill Bruford He's tireless, has his own voice. and tries to do something different all the time.

3 Phil Collins I know it‘s a radical opinion. but until 1975. he was the best drummer in the world.

4 Chad Smith He's a modern day John Bonham; he's a huge powerhouse and plays the drums like a 14-year-old kid as loud as he can. He’s a monster boogie machine. If Led Zeppelin were still around they'd have to get him.

5 Steve White He has the finest technique you'll ever see. He can play four rhythms. all at once. going against each other. The independ- ence he has in his limbs is terrifying.

EMILY BALLARD, education officer for TAG Theatre Company chooses her five favourite cartoon characters.

1 Wil E Coyote He's a brilliant foil to his annoying nemesis. Plus. the sight of my dad laughing his head off without fail at this cartoon means it's got to be my number one.

2 Marge Simpson The Simpsons is a fantastic cartoon and Marge is my favourite there aren't enough decent female cartoon characters

. . . let's have more, I say.

3 Scooby 000 Not the film version but the original I love it for the very reason that it is absolutely predictable . . . every time.

4 Mumm-Ra Thundercats was no masterpiece but its salvation came in the form of Mumm—Ra and his transformation scenes no?

5 Mickey Mouse An absolute classic. even if his v0ice is somewhat ridicul0us. OK. the cartoons were bad but he was an icon.

LOST IN THE POSTER

The Vatican was raising hell about the poster for Amen (left) even before the film was released. The design by Oliviero ‘United Colours of Benetton’ Toscani merges the holy cross with the Nazi swastika, something the church found sacrilegious. Below we select our favourite notable film posters.

A Clockwork Orange This poster's been ripped off countless times isee The Ninth Configuration among othersi and why not? It's a classic with Malcolm McDowell leaning out of the ‘A' to commit a bit of iiltraviolence.

Midnight Cowboy Dustin Hoffman looks so rough as Ratso Rl/7() he don't even look like himself no more. Baby» faced Jon Voight. hols/ever. looks yummy Classic piece of photography.
