TOMMY SMITH - ALONE AT LAST

Tommy Smith created this excellent solo-with-electronics performance with the proceeds of his Creative Scotland Award last year, and toured it extensively around Scotland (although not Edinburgh), including many areas where jazz is rarely heard. The adaptability of the show to diverse settings proved to be one of its many strengths, and the Queen‘s Hall will be specially adapted for the occasion - the stage will be in the centre of the audience area to allow the saxophonist’s surround-sound concept to function. The music is very different from the subsequent solo CD he released, and uses all manner of digital delays and recorded sounds to complement his powerful, evocative saxophone playing.
