FUNK THE NEW MASTERSOUNDS

The Funk Room, the Arches, Glasgow, Fri 20 Dec

.4“ ' l a...» ~

Rarely does Christmas come early, but the Funk Room has managed to pull it off - five days before the wee man’s birthday, would you believe? The hottest funk band in Britain, the New Mastersounds, have been lured to Scotland for

the Funk Room’s Christmas special.

The Leeds eight-piece (Eddie Robertson on guitar, Simon Allen on drums, Pete Shand on Bass, Bob Birch on Hammond, Jason Rae on alto and baritone sax, Atholl Ransome on tenor sax and flute, Malsom Strachan on trumpet and Reverend Chunky on vocals) will be rounding off a busy and successful year. The Mastersounds have recently played Belgium, Holland and Spain, have recorded a live session on BBC Radio Six’s Funk Show, and two new tracks to be

released in the new year.

Their live performances are truly an experience, fronted by Reverend Chunky (think Leeds’ answer to James Brown) who will blow away believers, agnostics and atheists alike with the power of his voice. Hailed as the future of modern funk, they have fans including DJ Shadow and Gilles Peterson, who raved about their debut album, Keb Darge Presents the New Mastersounds, which is soon to be rereleased on a new label to meet public demand.
