NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA OF SCOTLAND Last January, it was the 1999 winner of the Leeds Conductors‘ Competition — Garry Walker — who guided the 100 or so members of the excellent National Youth Orchestra of Scotland through their New Year course and concerts. This year, the orchestra revisits the starry ranks of past Leeds winners and welcomes Sian Edwards, who won the very first competition in 1984, to their Edinburgh and Glasgow platforms.
Guest soloist in Szymanowski’s Violin Concerto is the inspirational young Romanian. Mihaela Martin, who returns to Scotland in April for Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with the RSNO. (Carol Main)
