There’s so much more to a healthy sex life than breaking records with the head count and the passion behind each per- formance. As Scotland continues to experience a prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned teenage pregnancies, a healthy sex life, not surprisingly, also means understand-
ing the risks, how they can be eradicated and where to go for help. Aimed exclu- sively at young people, Caledonia Youth provides a sexual health service that strives to bring issues out into the open, while exploring the happier aspects of enjoying a healthy sex life. As CY’s Hawys Kilday says: "It’s quite simply the
smart option to take precautions and ensure you don’t end up turning a time of pleasure into a nightmare scenario. "And it’s not just about preventing unplanned pregnancies," she added. "The reality is that Scotland continues to experience a high occurrence of infections like Chlamydia, which if left untreated causes severe pain, uncomfortable sex and infer- tility for both males and females. So pre- vention tops our agenda, as we want peo- ple to be prepared and not be forced to take risks."We believe a short five-minute appointment is simply not adequate as we’re also here to talk about negotiation skills and relationships. Discussions might cover being pressured into having sex before you feel ready or about the use of condoms and lubricants to be avoided."
CY has operated in Edinburgh for more than 30 years (formerly Brook in Scotland) and just recently opened in Glasgow and Dundee, as part of a Scottish-wide expansion. New branches will open in Falkirk and Aberdeen early next year. If you have any burning issues that you would like to discuss in confi- dence and on a one to one basis, then CY will be happy to respond directly to any questions.
