78 THE LIST 13—27 Feb 2003

MISH "iiiiAs'H Liquid Lounge, Glasgow, Sat 22 Feb

‘lt‘s my Birthday. I am six.’ This is the badge proudly displayed on the chest of Mish Mash this month. And this is one popular kid. The club, and its considerable following, is now happily housed in the Liquid Lounge. The smaller, cosier venue undoubtedly gives the night a different flavour. Organiser Oscar Fullone is excited about the new opportunities afforded by the new space, and hopes this month’s celebration will have the feel of a private house party. ‘A change of venue, like a birthday, is a chance to shed a coat and move on,‘ he says.

Guest of honour will be Sam Hardaker, who regularly hosts the Zero 7 room at Mish Mash in London. Working on a follow-up album to the duo‘s delicious debut Simple Things, Sam sounds like just the man to set the pace of an older, though probably not wiser, Mish Mash. ‘As a producer, you can give your own slant to a record, and completely change its effect’, says Fullone. ‘Too many DJs focus on genre, but a producer's role is quality control. If a record is to our taste, we’re going to play it, whether it‘s R&B, house, drum 8. bass, Latino or soul.‘
