THE BAD PLUS The early return of the Bad Plus provides a not-to-be-missed chance to catch up with the iconoclastic New York trio. The band's gig at the Hub in last summer's jazz festival was a highlight of the year. Since then the trio — Reid Anderson (bass). Ethan lverson (piano) and Dave King (drums) - have recorded their debut disc for Columbia at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studio (see Records page 94), and are now set to launch their first UK tour. lverson is suitably excited about these appearances. ‘This will be our first time anywhere other than Edinburgh and we're really excited about it. and about the new album. Pretty much everything on the record had been road-tested live. We recorded with no edits or overdubs, and knowing the music so well made that easier. There were only a couple of times we changed things to work better on the record from the way we would do it live. We‘re not really a band that plays huge long solos live anyway.‘ (Kenny Mathieson)
