MUSICA ITALIA

With no more than three concerts, Musica Italia is a small but perfectly formed gem of a festival. So much so that the director of the Italian institute in Edinburgh has germinated nurtured seed into the current month long celebration of all

things Venetian. Originally conceived

as a platform of exchange between Italian and Scottish contemporary music and musicians, the festival [this year embraces the music of Venice courtesy of the Dunedin Consort. Composers working there now sit alongside glorious past vocal masters Monteverdi and Gabrieli with new and old, Scottish and Italian fused together in Edward Harper’s specially commissioned Omaggio a Vivaldi.
