When Noa became Berlin, the plan was for it to be a bierhaus rather than a club. But the deceptively large rooms that stretch out

beneath Queensferry Street Lane have a distinct dancefloor vibe about them - and Edinburgh’s West End, crammed with bland pubs and smart-but-shallow bars, desperately needs a club that can do something

interesting. Fortunately, music hasn‘t been left on the backburner, with the likes of Funkey Magic and Huggy Burger Queen providing tunes. And now there’s a new kid on the block. Mocha Rocka! is a collaboration between Edinburgh house duo Tokyo Blu and Spaceface DJs Spider and the Blonde Flash. While their promise of a ‘stairway to sound heaven' suggests they‘re not taking the whole shebang too seriously, there should be music to suit all ears. ‘We're going to be playing hip hop, disco, funk, soul,’ explains the Blonde Flash (aka Gayle Bruce). ‘Not too much real house music, though. We’re leaving that to the other two. They've got this drummer, I think he’s Cuban, and he plays Latin percussion while they DJ. They won‘t be playing anything too hard; it’ll be more soulful grooves. We’ll just be having a party.’ (James Smart)
