It's taken four long months, but at last the damage caused to the Edinburgh club scene by the Cowgate fire has been repaired. The re-opening of Manga in a new regular slot at the Honeycomb will be seen by many as the greatest indicator that normal service has been resumed.

Not only that, but the Basstrap folk behind Manga are also overseeing the relaunch of their Switch-Up! night at the same venue this month, with breakbeat mainstays the Freestylers providing a special guest-DJ set. In the case of Manga. however, it‘s one of the originators of the drum 8. bass scene who’ll be putting in an appearance.

‘It was all acid house and techno when I started.’ says J Majik, who became involved in 0&8 at the age of 15. Now. 11 years later. and following a meeting of minds with Goldie ' '- ._ and his Metalheadz. the artist formerly known as Jamie \Spratling is a respected DJ and producer within the genre.
