The Honeycomb, Edinburgh, Sat 1 Nov Sometimes a song just seems to catch fire. Tim Deluxe’s ‘It Just Won’t Do’ was one of last year’s biggest dance hits: it was funky, it was poptastic and it was very dirty indeed. ‘Darren [Emerson] played it at World DJ Day at Fabric and Lottie and Yousef were in the DJ booth,’ explains Deluxe. ‘I went to the toilet, and I got back and he’d played it twice. He’d gone to loop it and accidentally pressed repeat so it went back to the top again. They were all “Fucking hell,
your record’s ripped the place up!” So I
knew it was going to be big.’
Since then, Deluxe has played with
Emerson at Underwater Records‘ lbizan showcase, fallen off a bike while waving
at Erick Morillo and released his well-
received debut album The Little Ginger Club Kid. His Edinburgh show will be a
DJ set - and is unlikely to feature his signature tune, although he admits he may ‘tease a little horn’ - but Deluxe
has also started playing live. ‘I love rock
music. This explosion of rock goes to show everyone in dance music why
they’ve pissed all over us. They’re doing
it live and they’re doing great stuff.
