One Part one (naturally) of Lucas Belvaux’s quirky, obscenely enjoyable trilogy. There is something of Kurosawa‘s Rashomon and Alan Ayckbourn's The Norman Conquests about this cross referencing series of films but Belvaux claims it is all a tribute to writer Honore de Balzac. Whatever, he's a crazy man. Originally titled Cava/e or On the Run, this first film in the Trilogy is an extremely tight political thriller but it is what lies beyond this first part that is as important. See features. page 14. and review. page 23. Selected release

Aileen The life and death of a serial killer. Nick Broomfield and Joan Churchill's fascinating and tragic follow up to their 12- year—old documentary Aileen Wuornos: The Selling of a Serial Killer. Aileen shows the state of Florida to be the hell hole of bureaucratic evil we all know it to be. See interview. page 23, and review page 27. Selected release

Moi albinoi Touching if slightly formulaic coming of age drama about an albino teenager called Ndi, who just can't stop pissing people off. Set in the far frozen reaches of rural Iceland. this film is deeply influenced by US independent guru .Jim Jarmusch. See review. page 24. Filmhouse, Edinburgh.

Kill Bill Tarantino and Uma are back and, yes, they are kicking arse. General release

The Mother Hanif Kureishi comes through for the first time since My Beautiful Laundrette with this excellent modern day parable about an older lady having an affair with her daughter's boyfriend. See review page 25. Selected release.

Alexander Dovzhenko Season More or less complete season of the films of one of the true pioneers of 19208 Soviet cinema. See preview. page 23. Filmhouse, Edinburgh.
