You could try to be funny, quirky or crazy with your presents but let’s face it, you can’t go wrong with CDs. Fame Academy winner, Alex Parks, (or as she is now known, ‘Cornish lesbian Alex’) has brought out her debut album, Introduction, a mix of covers and self-penned numbers, whereas
Marc Almond’s latest album Heart on Snow is a ‘celebration of 100 years of
Russian music’. If you like your music home grown then Horse’s new album, All of Me, could be ideal. Recorded live during her solo acoustic tour in 2003, it has many of the Horse classics as well as tracks from her studio album Hindsight. . . It’s a Wonderful Thing.
Videos and DVDs include Ma Vie, another great film from the gay French directing duo who gave us Drole de Felix. For a superb TV series the box set of The Secret Life of Us is an Australian drama about a group of late twentysomethings living and loving together.
Book worms and murder mystery fans will appreciate the two books from Millivres-Prowler, Death Comes Easy: The Gay Times Book of Murder Stories and Necrologue: The Diva Book of the Dead and the Undead. For a spot of history there is Homosexuality and Civilisation by Louis Crompton, and Strangers: Homosexual Love in the 19th Century by Graham Robb. If you like things a bit lighter there is always Queer as Folk: The Book by Paul Ruditis giving a behind the scenes look at the TV show and its characters.
