They put on a show every month. usually with a tongue-in-cheek cabaret touch. so this should be no different. There’s live funk from Glasgow outfit Cazale's Fat Laces. and Papa C00] D15 Billy and Batty join Duncan and Ian on decks for some super-cool New Year shenaniganery.

I Optimo at The Art School. l0pm—5am. £25. Hogmanay only. Johnny and Twitch are pulling out all the stops to make this one as memorable as the last four years at the Art School. ()ptimo is the broadest of musical churches and the bill reflects that with live music from from Midnight Mike and the Btig and local leftfield DJs Sister Motivator and Mingo-go guesting.

I 69 at Club ()9. 10.30pm—5am. £10. Hogmanay only. The ()9 Hogmanay party has been going ten years now. and it's set the club ablaze in the past. This year there's a very special guest they won‘t tell us about. Mysterious. eh‘.’
I Stud’essential at Jongleurs. 9pm-3am. Free. Weekly. Fresh student night at the comedy club in the big building. Free entry and a shitload of drinks promos mean that the crowd will be in fine fettle.
I Subculture NYE 03-04 at the Sub Club. 1 lpm—4am. £22. Hogmanay only. Expect a knockout venue full of visual delights. aural pleasuring in the form of the best music of 2003 with a very special surprise live act to bring in the new year with a Subculture experience to remember. Harri and Domenic as always are in full control with a mix CD on offer to help bring back those hazy memories.

There‘ll be intimate pillow talk in the front bedroom and sexy R&B and pop in the back bedroom. Watch out for the traffic police who give free alcohol to all those who dare to sit in the car seat.
I X-Factor and Chakra at the Soundhaus. ilplll 5am. £tbc. llogmanay only. The Soundhaus invites you to sink a long one this New Year. and they‘re not talking about golf. The big room is manned by the ('hakra DJs with their industrial- strength dance while (ilasgow's premier disco citizens X Factor provide the vibes in the wee rootii. This is going to be tip there with ()ptimo for underground music and bad haircuts.

With DJs Astroboy and Mr Zimbabwe spinning only the finest selection of electro jazz. Latin rhythms and funky global beats. accompanied by live percussion.

The baggy-tastic trip back to the summer of ‘91 that is Madchester has gained prominence as the best place to ‘e in Edinburgh on Boxing Day. At this essentially retro night harking back to the Mancunian indie sound which gave British music a kick up the arse and paved the way for Britpop, you can expect to hear all the classics (Roses, Mondays. Charlatans) and this time they’ve added an extra stamp of authenticity with the booking of the era’s Elvis: Shaun William
Ryder himself.
In addition to making his name as the lead singer of the Happy Mondays and Black Grape. Ryder fostered his mighty reputation on a series of unlikely, frightening, misadventures. Among the well- documented highs and lows have been a one-day career as a porn mag editor; his Sunday Sport column; a working holiday in Barbados where he became addicted to crack, and the time he almost got the teatime- broadcast TFI Friday taken oft air by filling Black Grape‘s cover of the Sex Pistols‘ ‘Pretty Vacant’ with more fucks than a cheap sauna.
