THE SCO AND HAFLIDI HALLGRIMSSON

If you're feeling adventurous then don’t hesitate to go for the SCO initiative that is just for you. The Adventurer Series continues to trailblaze for classical music, this month with the UK premiere of Icelandic composer Haflidi Hallgrimsson‘s new Cello Concerto. Based on the little melodic Grieg lullaby that Hallgrimsson played on his own cello as a child, the 25-minute long concerto is dominated in shape and mood through hinting at, rather than fully quoting, the lullaby. Mysterious, reflective and dramatic, especially in the hands of soloist Truls Mork, this is definitely not a lullaby to send you to sleep. (Carol Main)
