What’s cock and what’s rock in the world of dance

Kiss Smooth 988 (Universal 0. ) Or. in other words slow. boring cuts from the likes of Beyonce. R Kelly. Nelly. Big Brovaz etc. Though may come in handy when trying to seduce a laydee.

Groove Armada Do/n' it After Dark Vo/ 7 (Ragbull Music

co ) Sorry guys. but this is just too dated and there's an over- reliance on bongos.

Stacey Pullen Fabric/lye I4 (Fabric coo ) Pullen hasn't put in a mix CD for years. and perhaps that's why this isn‘t the swaggering Detroit mix you so longed for. Nowhere near the quality of his DJ sets. too housey and Obvious.

J-Jay Loves/apped Vol 3 (Loveslap ooo ) There is little here that hasn't been done before and the hackneyed positivity of the vocals can be a bit much. but this is still soulful house of quality if that be y0ur bag.

Big Bud Producer 07 (Good Looking ooo ) The latest compilation from the Good Looking camp is perhaps a little more ambient and dubby than previous offerings. Typically. standards of quality are high. but if you already have a 'logical' drum & bass compilation. you've already got this.

Hernan Catténeo Renaissance: The Masters Series (Renaissance o ) Dimitri from Paris In the House (Defected o ) Similarly. this has all been done before. but better. These upfront house mixes slipped smoothly out of the mould and once your ears have accepted the four-four beat it‘s like listening to nothing at all. but louder.

Yellow Man New York (HAS

0 ) With Dancehall enjoying another mainstream breakthrough at present. some of the old hands are coming Out to prove their salt. Unfortunately Yellow Man has always been someone whose musical appeal is a mystery to me. This is rubbish. (Henry Northmore & Mark Edmundson)
