TECHNO AGORIA

Access at the Honeycomb, Edinburgh, Fri 27 Feb

With an opera singer for a mother and an architect father, this blend of the artistic and analytical surely predestined France’s Sebastien Devaud’s career as a techno DJ and producer under

the moniker Agoria.

First getting his lucky break ten years ago after sending a tape to the French manager of Carl Cox and Jeff Mills, Devaud found himself - after his first gig - caught up in the snowball effect that occurred once he became a known quantity. But it took until 1999 for him to produce his own material. ‘Yes, I’m lazy,’ he laughs in heavily-accented tones. ‘I only bought a computer four years ago, but people said, “Your parents are musicians, you like all kinds of music, you should try to make your own.”’

Such luddite tendencies consigned to history, Devaud has now released his first album,

Blossom, and even has a website

(www.agoriamusic.com). So which element appeals more - the DJing or production? ‘Both, I get to think about my own personality and feelings when | make music,’ he replies. ‘But to DJ is like. . . how do I say? It’s like a cake.

It’s good to share.’ (David Pollock)
