TECHNO DAVE CLARKE
Colours at the Liquid Room, Edinburgh, Sat 20 Mar
This is a bit of a departure for house conglomerate Colours as it dips its toes into waters marked ‘techno’, in the process securing the talents of one of the UK’s most innovative and influential producers, Dave Clarke, for a live
set no less.
‘I never made that statement that I’m a techno DJ in everything I do,’ he says in his no nonsense style. And he's right. His latest album, Devil’s Advocate, mixed punk, electro and hip hop with the expected harsh beats. ‘I wanted to make an album, I won’t go into the “journey” bullshit, but I wanted it to be a little bit deeper than a collection of 12 inches.’ But that doesn’t mean he’ll be going easy on you, still playing out a few of the classic ‘Red’ series in his set.
Nice to see Clarke and Colours both willing to take a chance.
