Niki King has already laid down her credentials in several musical genres, winning over crowds for several years across Edinburgh but some new twists and turns have prompted renewed interest in her from several major record labels. She has been working on a new direction she describes as ‘eclectic soul, because it's a real mixture of all my influences - jazz, soul, funk, folk, whatever. I reached a point last summer where I felt I needed to focus seriously on myself as a songwriter, and move away from the kind of insecurities and fears that can pull you down as an artist. I didn't want to start playing safe.’ (Kenny Mathieson)

l Niki King plays at Henry’s Jazz Cellar, Edinburgh, Thu 8 & Fri 9 Apr.
