In the land of the blind, the three eyed man is king (or something like that). One such man is Alex Ross, the pencil-wielding god of the comics book world. We have glimpsed his work in contemporary masterpieces such as Batman: War on Crime (and more recently his stunning Smallville covers which he designed exclusively for the US TV Guide). A healthy portion of his awe inspiringly prolific work is available from all good bookshops now in the form of Mythology. This is one to cherish‘and place oh so obviously on your coffee table. From his working sketches and photographs to his finished art work, this is a total inspiration. Iconic doesn’t even begin to cover it.

I Mythology: The DC Comics Art of Alex Ross is published by Titan Books on 21 May, priced £24.99. See review, page 100.
