RUB DOWN Ad Lib, Glasgow, Sat 19 Jun

Rub Down is one of a handful of clubs that made their home in the plush, intimate interior of club Ad Lib. However, from the middle of Jun onwards, it's

‘club Ad Lib' no more, as the venue jettisons

its various late night parties and operates as a drinking and eating boite only. Join the Rub Down party as they pump up the volume on that not- inconsiderably-sized PA and say a teary goodbye to the coolest venue

on Hope Street.

Rory Watson (aka DJ Boab) and Thomas Gavin are the main men behind the Rub Down concept, which has expanded to include a design company and PA supplier. Recent NME darling Creme de Menthe, formerly a resident, is now an occasional special guest, and the whole thing revolves around a sense that going out should be a full-on experience. Watson explains how the informality of the venue shaped the club: ‘We break down the barrier between the stage and the crowd. One minute I can be up at the bar, blasting the trumpet, next I can be with the band. We want people to be engaged. Rub Down is all about having a good time, and having a sense of humour.’ (Johnny Regan)
