NUKLEAR PUPPY Ego. Edinburgh, Fri 11 Jun

Anyone who thinks globalisation has wiped out cultural difference should do a spot more clubbing. Hard house superstar Anne Savage has played almost everywhere you care to mention. produced enough mix compilations to fill a shelf and was one of the mentors on the DJ edition of Faking It. She‘s just returned from Asia. ‘lt’s at such an early stage there. And Chinese people are really polite, so for a breakdown in this country you get everyone screaming and whistling, but in Bejing everyone’s

weirdly quiet.‘

The crowd at Nuklear Puppy are unlikely to be as reticent. The night was started three years ago by Phil York and Jason Cortez, who were running separate midweek nights in the capital. They decided to join forces, and have since attracted Fergie, Judge Jules, Scott Bond and Lisa Lashes, as well as landing themselves a deal on Tidy Traxx. The third birthday sees Savage, Cortez and York joined behind the decks by Eddie Halliwell and residents Warner Rivers and William Daniel, with Savage and Halliwell booked to play hard dance upstairs and breaks and techno downstairs. Savage is looking forward to it. ‘Jason and Phil are crazy kids and the club itself is pretty insane proper back to ‘96-style madness, which is great for me as a DJ.’ (James Smart)
