The highlight of last year‘s gigging/ hob-
knobbing calendar had to be the MTV European Music Awards. where grown men and women seriously considered
selling vital organs to secure tickets. The latest MTV bash to hit the capital is less likely to cause such a widespread tabloid frenzy but is nonetheless worthy of note. MTV‘s urban arm. MTV Base. celebrates its fifth birthday this year and is throwing a series of parties up and down the country. Having just jetted back in from Africa. where he was covering the Ebony Music Festival. MTV Base Club Tour host Kat is enthusiastic about the up and coming night. 'Apart from having some of the hottest DJs around. the MTV Base nights are just off the hook because we know how to party.‘
Others on the bill to look out for are Steve Ellington aka Tha 4orce (he also used to play Ali G's patois spouting DJ on his chat show). Scotland‘s R&B ambassador Paul N‘Jie (Beat 106). MTV Lick party regular Hanif. with live support coming from Fya and Smujji (of ‘Must Be Love' fame) and possibly a track from club tour host Kat's new album.
