sumo Berlin. Edinburgh. Sat 17 Jul

Despite the fact that calling a night Sumo means you can get away with using really cool Japanese graphics on your flyer. we

suspect the promised concoction of

'phatt and heavy house music‘ might also

have inspired the handle.

The newest club night to be held in the

West End‘s small but perfectly formed Berlin bar-cum-nightclub. Sumo is the brainchild of

Geoff Montford. one of the men behind

Glasgow‘s Solemusic label. He also presents the radio show of the same name on Beat 106 with Stevie Sole, and produces and DJs around the globe. In fact, as we were going to press, he was off on a deckspinning jaunt around Russia, of all places. Held once every second month Sumo is just the latest ,of his many projects. It's certainly not a time- filler, though. In addition to Geoff M himself. this second night will also feature the Frisco Disco team of Martin Valentine and Stephen Wanless, as well as Edinburgh's Harry. In other words, it‘s going to be big just like it says on the tin. (David Pollock)
