Amongst the quirky wee shops, art galleries and ever-present goth kids of Cockburn Street, the simple and elegant Ecco Vino is a perfect place to relax and watch the world go by. As the name suggests, it's a wine bar dedicated to serving up the best of the grape, but without the pretension some bars can sometimes exude.
Ecco Vino opened a couple of years back, and has bedded into Cockburn Street's steep slope nicely. Its small, intimate space, filled with dark wood and an entire wall of wine bottles, is great for chilling out during the day or hooking up for a night out. Slap bang in the centre of town, it's popular with tourists and local office folks alike during the day. with a younger, cooler crowd pitching up and cramming into the candlelit nooks and crannies around the long, thin bar in the evenings. A relaxed, jazzy soundtrack pervades the place throughout, and an excellent menu of pasta dishes, sandwiches and salads is served throughout the day. There is a wide and varied range of draft and bottled beers to choose from, and hundreds of bottles of wine are available. If it’s all too much, the cheery staff are at hand to guide you through the list. All in all Ecco Vino is a quietly classy oasis of continental charm.
