Music news, new radio and rock DVDs to please
It's not in our listings as the details have to be confirmed, but NEMIS (New Music in Scotland) and Is the Music? Magazine are getting together to organise a John Peel tribute show in aid of Children in Need on Friday 19 November. The gig, entitled ‘Teenage Kicks', will have as many bands as possible playing short sets of covers of songs they heard on Peel's shows over the years. London's alternative music radio station XF M is moving up nonh to broadcast on an IM license in Glasgov.’ for a month from If November on lUGi’IM. The station is putting on a talent search to find an aspiring local DJ from the area. who Wlll get to host their own hourlong show on the station during the month. Keep an eye out for a series of 7” 455 a la Sup Pop singles club from Dublin label Earsugar. The first couple from Mek Obaam and Hi Lonesome Electric were pretty great in a rockablilly-meets- glitchy electronic—meets indie kind of way. Look out for more from them in the next few months.
