Music news, views and gratis good stuff

Not even pop stars are immune to common illness, you know. This is increasingly evident as Paul Weller heads a long list of gig postponements. His shows in Glasgow, which were originally rescheduled from November to December, have now been cancelled with new dates to be announced for the new year. Similarly, Beverley Knight has put the kibosh on her Edinburgh visit and will appear instead on 5 April at Carling Academy. Electric Six have postponed their Barrowland show to 20 February while Ben Folds has cancelled his entire tour which will be rescheduled for June 2005. Refunds for all shows are available from point of purchase.

The national battle of the bands contest. Carling East Meets West. comes to a climax at the Barrowland on 28 November with six bands Tenpercenter, the P453. Shine, Starsky, Luma and the Very performing. See our offers on page 13 for a chance to win VIP tickets.

WIN EASTPACK RESISTANCE TOUR SKATE PUNK GOODIES The spirit of punk is alive and well and resident at Studio 24 as 7 Seconds, Sick of it All and a plethora of other skate punk legends descend on Edinburgh on 25 November. You can’t keep a frazzled 80$ electropop veteran down. it seems. He may have lost the colossal side parting but Phil Oakey remains as debonair and charming as ever and, unlike some of their contemporaries, much of their music has stood the test of time.
