GLASGOW GETS OWN FILM FEST I Denying rumours of a rivalry with the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the director of the new Glasgow World Film Festival (GWFF) announced the launch of a major new event in Scotland’s artistic calendar. According to Nick Varley, the GWFF will show around 60 films, on screens in the UGC and Glasgow Film Theatre complexes as well as the CCA from 9-17 February 2005. ‘This is a people’s film festival. Glaswegians go to the cinema more than any other city in the UK and this festival is about the relationship of the city with film,’ said Varley. Although the programme is not finalised, Varley has lined up Scottish premieres of Wes Anderson’s latest film Life Aquatic, a documentary on Rupert Murdoch called Outfoxed and the new Woody Allen movie.
