This year, the biggest festive treats are on the east coast....
Raise your hand if you spent Hogmanay last year standing out in the cold like a lemon, bitter because of fireworks that didn't happen, or gigs that didn't take place. Cold, weren‘t you, because you chose to dress fashionably in something skimpy, when you should have just buttoned up your parka and gritted your teeth under cover of a knitted scarf. Well. rest assured, this year will be different. Don't be left out in the cold: get yourself organised and get yourself tickets to one of Edinburgh‘s biggest homo-Hogmanay parties.
At the Liquid Room, Taste hold their first ever Hogmanay fling, with an almost Abigail’s Party theme to the evening. The venue will be transformed into a gloriously kitsch and retro 19705 living room, so you can drink and dance into the early hours with a heady supply of refreshments, canapes and, of course, party games, all with a familiar seventies soundtrack. The backroom, meanwhile, will be themed as a teenager's bedroom (no, don't run away with any filthy ideas) specialising in only the choicest pop hits and chart
misses of 2004.
Down the road, meanwhile, the Venue will be taken over by your friends from Joy and Mingin‘, joining forces and filling up all three floors with the treats you‘ve come to know and (presumably) love. The cast list includes Maggie and Allan Joy, Sally F, Brian Dempster, DJ Michelle, Brett King and Dale Lush, all on hand to keep you occupied, so line your stomach beforehand, leave your duffel coat at the door and try not to look too shell-shocked when you stumble back into the real world in the early hours. It all kicks off at 11pm, and you‘ll be thrown rudely back out into the streets at five the next morning.
So what better excuse do you need to burn off calories from the annual overdose of mince pies? Get yourself tickets, and party like it‘s 2005. And for those with real stamina, parties begin again on the evening of 1 January.
