REASONS TO 60 SEE

1 It’s a family affair The band conSists of a brother-Sister pairing and, erm. another brother-Sister pairing. Romeo Stodart Sings and plays guitar. sister Michele plays bass and sings. Sean Gannon plays drums and sister Angela Slfth and does percussion. Considering the traditional sibling animosdy of rock bands. it should make for an interesting tour bus. 2 They’ll turn your frown upside down The Magic Numbers' sound reflects all those 708 post-hippy outfits you're ashamed to say you like. such as the Lovin' Spoonful and the Mamas and Papas. Limited release seven- inch single ‘Hymn to Her' on Heavenly is the proof. 3 They’ve been around a bit The two families met in West London, but the Stodarts were born in Trinidad (where Mrs Stodart had her own TV show singing opera tunes) before moving to New York as impressionable kids. 4 They’re the chubby, indie Abba OK. they're not really that chubby. but in a world of stick-thin. coiffed indie boys they are a refreshing change back to normal body shapes. The two boys have the Benny and Bjorn beard thing going on as well. 5 They’re the cuddliest band in the country Like a less intimidating Polyphonic Spree. the Magic Numbers are a band to snuggle up With on these long. cold winter nights. Oh yes. (Doug Johnstone)
