Letter from the editors
The List has always been an important magazine for Scottish bands (and Scottish people generally), not only as a source for what’s going on and where it’s happening, but as a reference for all things new, championing bands from the bottom of the bill at the 13th Note, to the headliners at T in the Park. For us, it has always been exciting to be a part of it, from our first demo review nine years ago, through reviews of singles, albums and concerts. This fortnight, as well as talking about our upcoming record, we’ve taken a look at what’s going on in Glasgow and Edinburgh over the next two weeks, and added our own ideas and opinions to the mix.
We can't honestly claim to have been fully responsible for ‘editing’ Scotland’s ultimate entertainment guide (we left most of it to the experts). What follows are all your usual List favourites - reviews, hitlists, opinions etc - with our choices squeezed in when we thought they were appropriate. And it’s a good couple of weeks: the Aye Write! literature festival kicks off in Glasgow, featuring writers like Ian McEwan and Louise Welsh, there’s the release of Wes Anderson’s new film The Life Aquatic, concerts by the likes of Roots Manuva, Doves and REM as well as the Tsunami Benefit Gig, which is something we’re
glad to be involved with. It’s funny how a line-up with such international clout is essentially made up of local people who know each other. It’s bound to be fun, and it’s already made a ton of money. Four hours, nearly 15 acts: fingers crossed it runs as smoothly as the bar.
We’ve written several reviews, and there are also some complicated (and tenuous) ldlewild links to Kevin Bacon, a dangerous cocktail recipe, Colin extolling the virtues of table tennis, and Gavin having a rant about hard pears. All in all, a worthwhile day spent annoying the List staff, and hopefully a few good suggestions for the upcoming fortnight. Enjoy. Roddy Woomble ldleWild
