JE T’ADORE

I am a French fan of The List!!

I‘ve been a student in Scotland since September 2004 and I enjoy reading it 3000 much! I was wondering if you are organising a game to win 2 tickets for the Bryan Adams concert which will take place in Glasgow on 14 May. I can't afford them and I wanted to offer them to my girlfriend. and its my birthday on 16 May!!

I know asking this sounds stupid. but I believe in Hope. and in The List 2) If not I will still read your magazine because its very Good!!! :)

I enjoy spotting some nice places thanks to The List, it's really easy for non-Scottish people to get used to Scottish life with it!

Don't change a thing, it’s penecNH

Cheers!!!

Merci beaucoup!!! Jean-Sébastien Tougne Edinburgh Bryan Adams? Nothing we could do. But since you clearly enjoy the magazine so much. we ’re going to give you a free year ’s subscription for your birthday Joyeux anniversai're, mon pcte.’

CHILD MOLESTER Re: Rage! (520)

Was happily flicking through the new issue and was about to congratulate you until I got to the picture on page 10. Come on. Children might be reading this. Have some consideration.

SPELLING BEE

Re: 15 Days to Live (520)

I‘m dropping you a note because I find myself particularly embarassed by the current issue's 15 Days to Live

The List,

round-up. Or rather I'm embarassed on Xiaoli’s behalf. the Chinese playwright who wrote In The Bag. See 15 Days. . . Day 10. It's understandable that you'd misspell her forename Xiaoli. which Steve Cramer does all over his Style A lead in the Theatre section. and in the Hitlist. but misspelling her surname. the relatively straightforward ‘Wang' is really quite something.

We 're truly sorry about this unfortunate error. Happily enough, we enjoyed the show sufficient/y that it has made its way into 75 Days to Live again this fortnight, so we've been given another chance to spell Wang Xiao/i's name wrong . . . And just to prove that everyone '3 fallib/e. we 've published your letter as you sent it to us, With the word ‘embarrassed' misspelt. TWice.

TACTICAL VOTE

Re: Rage! (520)

‘Vote for anyone but Labour'. What a load of bravado. Steve Cramer is old enough to remember just how terrible it was to live in Britain under Margaret Thatcher and John Major; how money was taken out of our public services and virtually everything that moved got privatised. However much Tony Blair has pursued a depressing soft right agenda. it's been a massive improvement on what went before. If the voters had taken arguments like Steve‘s seriously, we might well have woken up with the ghastly Michael Howard as Prime Minister. We are all angry about the war, but those people who voted LaDOur on 5 May have done everyone a

IDLE HANDS

ULTIMATE PAPER HOARDER

Re: Letters (518)

I liked the suggestion in the letters page re compiling your film reviews. I wasted 18 quid on a Wrgin film guide and I don’t think any of the films I looked up were ever in it, whether they were old or new, and the reviews weren’t much cop either. I sold it on Amazon and thought, sod it, I’ll just keep The List. Of course it wasn’t that simple finding reviews when I needed them so I confess, I started being really worryingly anal and tearing out the pages with List film reviews, and putting them all together. Please save me from myself and my quaint paper mountain hoarding habits, and put them all in one CD like the guy says. I am sure you could publish and charge for it too.

Second idea. I wonder if anyone feels it worthwhile to list all the venues in Edinburgh in one simple list with addresses and phone numbers as part of what The List contains every fortnight? I keep picking up the list expecting to be able to find a phone no or contact by flicking through the pages, but can’t. For example, today, I want to know where the Bongo club is and can’t find it, and the other day I wanted to find a particular theatre and was scouring the listings and not having much luck. It would be so helpful especially for visitors if there was a single place where every venue was given. I do flat swaps and try to give people here for the first time all the info for their stay and don’t think there currently is anyone doing this in one document.

Who gives a toss? Only the List readers who voted Id/ewi/d one of the top three Scottish bands of all time; the punters who packed out Barrow/ands and the Usher Hall last week; and the fans who have bought more than 60, 000 copies of their new album since March.

2 THE LIST 12—26 May 2005

It's hard not to be biased when you love the books. It's just what I expected. There's fantasy. action and the dry humour is great. I think it'll appeal to lots of different people.

Maud

Student

It was hilarious.

The humour really appealed to me.

It's maybe a little Childish. but in a good way and I liked that about it.

‘- Ashley

Student

It's exactly my kind of film. I don‘t think there's a great deal you can say about it it's really entertaining. I‘ll definitely recommend it now.
