REASONS TO GO SEE

Grindcore, you know the score How many bands have created their own genre? OK. sub- genre in this case. In the early 805 there was speed metal. thrash metal. hardcore and punk. Mixing 'em all up in a bucket. Brummie madman Napalm Death created the offensive. apocalyptic. groundbreaking noise that is grindcore. Music would never be the same again.

Bllnk and you’ll miss ’em One of the features of grindcore is incredibly shon songs. Their 1988 album From Ens/avement to (Db/iteration (cheery. eh?) contained 54 songs. many of them only a few seconds long.

They’re in the Guinness Book of Records The band’s Single 'You Suffer' (actually a split single with the fantastic Electro Hippies“ ‘Mega Armageddon Death') is officially the shortest srngle of all time. clocking in at one second. Mainstream radio play eluded it but. unsurprisingly. John Peel played it to death.

They’re political Despite the short song lengths. Napalm Death have always had a socio-political message in their racket. They once toured South Africa in support of the ANC. and released a cover of the Dead Kennedys' ‘Nazi Punks Fuck Off‘ Stick it to the man. the Death

They’re pop stars, really OK. no! true. but their 1994 album Fear. Emptiness, Despair rather unbelievably went top ten in the US. thanks to an appearance on the Marta! Kombat movie soundtrack. (Doug Johnstone)
