8&0. Currently there is a healthy influx of Scottish musicians and producers putting their money where their mouths are and releasing their own material. I came across a wicked 10 inch on Mungos Hi Fi‘s Scotch Bonnet records. This is a quality two- pronged attack with dub on one side and ska on the other. I‘ve been dropping the ska tune into house sets and it gets a wicked reaction. Stow College has just put out a superb post-clubbing album from Mellow Sub Machine on its home-grown Gdansk label. There is also prolific output from indie and rock labels Hijacked. Chernikal Undergound. Fence and Engines own Bagatelle reCOrdings. On the soul. funk and jazz tip there is the amazing Buff Recordings with some top notch tracks ready to drop. On the electro-tinged market we have home of Salon Boris, U Discs. lridite and a new stOrming outfit and imprint from Bis in the shape of Data Panik. House and techno have always had their home support with labels like Some. Yummi, Deep Freeze, 520 East. Audiodacity. Seventh Sign. the Sole Music guys. Console Scunds and Tracktion. Hip hop is ably covered by Eastborn's wicked DropZone Recordings. All these labels are living proof that you can 'do it yourself'. Get your tracks mastered then multiple c0pies can be reproduced on CDs or vinyl in small or high numbers with your own artwork from as little as $21 a shot. Alternatively. set up a website to get your tracks out there. I'm sure Mylo doesn't regret releasing material on his own Breastfed Rec0rdings.
