SEEKER FINDER Things are heating up in New York new hit terms of \‘JOETIITOTI and the city is about to reach an uncomfortable level of humidity. Trash will begin to stink in the streets great! Meanwhile. I have heard from some of my Scottish spies that The List carries a sentence or two on our fine valebsrte . Is this the case? Edition two is about to go onlrne.

THE NINTH DOCTOR Re: Loving the Alien (517) Being something of a Dr Who fan (the Jen Pertwee years. of coursei. | read coverage of the series including Allan Radcliffe's fine feature with much interest. There was. however. one thing few of the articles picked up on: the ninth Doctor. Peter Cushing ractually the second. chroriologically speakingi. The Shakespeare- trained thesp played the Time Lord in the series' two film spin-offs, 1965's Dr Who and the Da/eks and the following year's Da/ek 's Invasion of Earth: 21:30 AD.

Yes. the films are rewrites of the first two Daleks stories written for the L’Villiam Hartnell show a couple of years earlier by the master. Terry Nation. But directed with an even hand by the GIEIS“.'/(}gléilt Gordon Flemyng who learned his trade on The Avengers and The Sainti from ramped-up for

In any event. a film that features Bernard Crrbbins heroically wrestling a dalek down a pit that leads directly to the centre of the earth has to be worth a look. no?

THE YOUTH OF TODAY

Re: the Books issue (523) Great idea to get 1 1-year olds to write the end of the Harry Potter story. but it was intriguing that three of the four featured children imagined the story ending with Hermione getting married reither to Harry or to Ron Weasleyr and having children. Whatever happened to radical youth?

TRUSTAFARIANS Has anyone seen the TV ads for the National Trust for Scotland? They feature fairly dodgy special effects to bring historical characters into supposedly amusing contemporary situations in order to ‘bring history alive'. What a shocking waste of inOney

According to the Trust. recent research showed that a lot of people didn't appreciate its range of actrvrties. and didn't know it was a charity rather than a public body. Many of those Questioned also felt it was an elitist organisation that didn't offer them anything of interest. Now. havrng seen

or The List at the CCA

350 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow G2 3JD or email editor@list.co.uk

these ads. I reckon most people will change their view of the Trust. and now regard rt as an outfit that doesn't know what to do with its money. Some clever PB would have been much more effective. If I'd been considering donating to the Trust. this misuse of money would definitely make me rethink. Dave Ashford Glasgow

CLOTHE YOURSELF Re: Shop (523)

Katy McAulay's piece on design-your--own clothing was excellent. but she missed one of the best onlrne ideas for T shirt designs. OMG clothing rwwworngclotliingcomi is a website where you submit a slogan and visitors to the site vote on whether it will become

a design. Those who submit the most popular slogans \Nlll 8100 in :ash. and have their deSigns worked up by fashion designers. List readers should check it out.

Actual/v. Katy did include the OMG site in her piece. hut we had to cut it for space reasons.

CLOTHE MYSELF Re: Books issue (523) Jonathan Safran Foer may write good books. but I was amazed that Craig McLean's

PODGY AND OVERFED Re: The Books Issue (523)

I felt I had to write in to yOu followrng your recent summer reading issue. Though it had brought a great deal of good fiction to my attention that otherWise I might have missed. and celebrated some of my own favourite authors. I'm afraid I can't let a small mistake go uncorrected. With regard to yetir article on the wonders of Alasdair Gray by Laura Hrrd: the headline reads ‘Lean and Hungry' but directly under this lies a portrait of Gray by Gray in which he looks neither lean nor hungry. In fact. he looks slightly overfed and a wee bit tired something he boasts on the back of his many books. Not surprising for a man as prolific as Hird describes but still. it's a mistake. I trust you \VlII print this correction.

Also. I've heard that second Harper Lee book is going to be rt may have been a long time coming but Harper wrll have the last laugh. That is if she hasn't already had it what with the 33 million sales of her debut and all . . .
