1 They’ve got metal up their ass Of all the punk pop bands around. Sum 41 are most in love with their dodgy metal past. Witness their endearing piss-take of Iron Maiden and various hair metal bands at the end of breakthrough hit ‘Fat Lip' as evidence. 2 They’re cartoons The Canadian foursome appeared in an episode of much underrated comedy show King of the Hill as the unlikely members of a Christian youth group. 3 if they’re good enough for Iggy Pop, they’re good enough for you The band appeared on the Martina Navratilova lookalike's album. Skull Ring. When asked why he chose them, the Iggster said: ‘Because they have balls.‘ From the man with the biggest balls in the business. that's some compliment. 4 They’ve grown up OK. not quite. but they do have a serious side. Idiotic videos. ass jokes and pie fights aside, they've worked with War Child Canada to raise awareness for the charity‘s aims. 5 They’ve been in a war zone Fighting broke out around them they were making a documentary for War Child Canada in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They were whisked to safety by a UN worker called Chuck. after whom they named their most recent album. (Doug Johnstone) Barrow/and. Glasgow, Tue 5 Jul.
