Beat 106’s underground ambassador Mash gives the lowdown. Despite being too small to go on the Coca Cola Roller at the Glasgow Garden Festival. I've been a fan of festivals ever since. Over the last couple of weeks we have witnessed the West End Festival. the Jazz Festival. Glastonbury and the Sonar festival in Barcelona. Full marks go to Mark Robb's Buff Club for hosting the excellent Jazz Festival Spiegeltent in George Square. that being the backdrop to stunning performances from home grown talent. the Fusion Experience and Sidewinder, to name but two. Glastonbury has had its tartan representatives in the shape of Glasgow's ‘Sound Development Agency’ and Edinburgh's newly wed George T under his new ‘George Demure' guise. I'm hOping to get George up to play at my Vandal night at the Liquid Lounge before the end of the year. I can't wait to hear his forthcoming album on Trevor Jackson's Output Recordings. Sonar is an amazing festival in the beautiful surroundings of Barcelona. All reports from friends have been positive. with most of the comments praising the unofficial parties that surround it. Kompakt's Michael Mayer held one on the beach which seems to have been a highlight and also the Soma camp were flying the flag over there for us Scots. with a road blocked queue full of Weegie accents making Las Ramblas look more like Byres Road. The Slam Tent at T in the Park has got an amazing line-up as usual. with live sets from LCD Soundsystem. Two Lone Swordsmen. the Bays. Black Strobe. Booka Shade and Death in Vegas. with local support from Mylo, Jim Hutchison. Alex Smoke. Butch Cassidy Soundsystem and Silicone Soul. As Lionel Ritchie says: ‘fiesta forever‘. I Catch Mash every Friday at Vandal at the Liquid Lounge and on Beat 106 's Xpress Beats
