PROFlLE

GARY LITTLE

Who’s he then? Well. despite his name. Mr Little is anything but diminutive. A strapping chap with bulging muscles and a gruff Glasgow accent, he's the kind of comic who only the brave heckle. Playing on his intimidating appearance. he occasionally toys with a vulnerable audience member, but the tough exterior belies a gentle giant with a good line in quirky observations. After all, he still lives with his mum and dad (bless). who provide plenty of fuel for his highly visual tales of everything from lino addiction to hypochondria. But at the end of the day. Gary likes nothing better than going for a walk with the famin Border Collie. To Dumfries. After a gram of speed.

In three words Punchy, perceptive. puerile.

Where we saw him Cockburn Comedy. Edinburgh. Thursday 30 June.

Anyone else good that night? Rookie comics Peter Aitchison and Mark Nelson got a few giggles with their gags about dating and cheese toasties although the audience wasn't quite ready for the one about the benefits of having a grandmother with Parkinson's. Compere Vladimir McTavish kept the laughs rolling in between. musing on the fate of G8 protesters camping out at Niddry (even more entertaining because some of the campsite security guards were in the audience). He rounded off his set with a memorable rendition of one of the less traditional highland ballads. which probably had Burns Spinning in his grave. (Rachael Street)
