POSITIVE IMAGE SOUGHT FOR ASYLUM SEEKERS

I The Asylum Positive Images Group has launched a new guide for all liberal-minded hacks sickened by tabloid misinformation regarding refugees and asylum seekers. Fair Play: Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Scotland sets out to inform public opinion and support integration through challenging negative media relating to asylum issues. The Asylum Positive Images Group, which was established by Oxfam and comprises exiled journalists. refugee community organisations and agencies, NGOs and public sector agencies, has also announced the creation of the Asylum Positive Images Awards. Sponsored by the National Union of Journalists, the prize will be bestowed upon those Scottish journalists who have excelled in their reporting of people seeking asylum or refugees and asylum policy in Scotland. The first award will be presented as a special category at the annual Amnesty International Scotland Media Awards to be held in the Scottish Parliament on the evening of 14 September. (AR)
