Hate to pick your nits. but c0uld it possibly be that either your picture editor or your film guy is a little bit. shall we say. mammarially-obsessed? In the last issue there were two separate occasions when naked flesh of the female chest variety were displayed. Pages 113 and 95. if yOU want to check. Of course. they were both for European art moVies. so that's OK then. Come on guys. you're not Nuts or Zoo. And thank the bla/es for it. Jenny F

BULLYING TACTICS Re: Schoolyard crimes What exactly are schools doing about bullying these days? We hear time and again abOut the 'strict measures which have been implementc-zd and the 'tOugh stance' schools are supposedly taking about any bullies they find. And this is the main problem: schools are far too reactive in their approach. I speak here as someone still suffering the psychological effects of school bullying (by peers and teachers alike) 11 years after leaVirig school. Schools seem to wait until pupils approach them with problems. I can still hear my guidance teacher saying time and again: ‘Come and see me if you've any problems.” They do not seem to realise (or want to realise) that to solve the problem of bullying they must be far more proactive in monitoring Children's behaViour and taking steps to nip any potential bullies firmly in the bud. Schools today seem to be far too geared towards ‘understanding children. Well. Surely part of that is to show how to behave fairly towards

Re: Film/Music pieces (530) .Just wanted to say a guick thank you for all of your hard work and extra coverage over the Festival. Thanks are especially due for not forgetting that there is actually stuff happening in the rest of the country outside of Edinburgh. forgets that children naturally want to assert themselves amongst their peers and people misinterpret that as bullying' Well. this is true in part but there is a fine line between assertive behaViour and bullying. I know because I walk it every day. The difference between bullies and myself is that I apologise to those I think I have offended in some way and do not see the need to justify my everyday behawocir where a bully might. Teachers are far too scared

DOCTOR IN THE GARDENS?

Re: Franz Ferdinand gig

I happily stood in the rain to watch Fran? Ferdinand at Princes Street Gardens the other week. While it was excellent. the band used the Dr Who theme as their opening music. It was only then that the penny dropped. Alex Kapranos is a surefire contender for the next Timelord! The cheeky grin. the floppy fringe and the obvious to actually do anything about any problem that they notice because they see the few that do getting shouted down where they should be supported and also because parents Wield far too much power in being able to tell teachers what and what not to EDINBURGH ROCKS

Re: List’s festival coverage

For many years. The List has been of invaluable help to me in planning our annual trip to the Edinburgh Festival. Your revrews have helped me to select the best Fringe theatre performances right at the start of the visit and to plan our stay accordingly.

Originally. this was made even easier by your magazine recommending an ideal full day programme including its major recommendations for each time slot. Recently. that feature has disappeared. As a result. it is now a real hassle to switch between your reviews and the full programme to find out what can be combined and what cannot. Can l suggest that this feature is reVived next year?

In addition. can I suggest that you make an effort to ensure that your magazine is available at Edinburgh Airport? It would allow us to start the planning process immediately after arrival. Keep up the

do. So what. you may ask. do I offer as a way forward? Well. kids. talk about your problems to your teachers and if you don't feel you're getting anywhere. talk to your parents and take it as far as you possibly can to get a satisfactory result. Don‘t be afraid of hurting the bullies because they were never afraid to hurt you.
