Chunks of bite-sized music news morsels to chew on

I Muchos crossed wires last issue when we said that Karine Polwart had cancelled her shows this autumn. This was in fact both piffle and poppycock, Karine will be visiting Glasgow’s ABC on 15 Nov, Striling at the Tollbooth on 15 Nov and continuing through to the Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh on 19 Nov.

I On the new dates front. Hard-Fl are capitalising on their chart bothering antics of late to play the Barrowland. on 4 December while Ocean Colour Scene's seeming endless road trip takes in two nights at Glasgow's ABC 21 and 22 December. See our Autumn music special on page ’2? and Book Now page 75 for even more of the just announced 9193.

I So many people assume that the classical music world is stuffy and backward Ioking. Well here’s some news to the contrary: with its Classic Bites series, the RSNO becomes the first symphony orchestra to offer a download of what you’ve just heard in the concert hall. Available in mp3 format from a specially designed website, the music can be accessed via a password given out to those who’ve paid their fiver to attend either of the two performances. Go along to the Usher Hall, Edinburgh on Friday 23 September or Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Saturday 24 September to take advantage of the scheme. See Classical listings, page 79 for more.

I Sick of the Crazy Frog? You're only human after all and the people at classical music publishers Boosey & Hawkes understand your pain and are launching even more ringtones based on famous classical pieces. Since their launch in July the likes of Prokofietf's Romeo and Juliet and C0pland's Fanfare for the Common Man proved hugely popular and their website has expanded to give access to over 300 ringtones for over 1990 models of phones. (-30 to www.booseytones.com for more.
