l After a successful show last month at Neuhaus Gallery, New York, Keith Farquhar returns to Scotland, exhibiting with Mark Leckey in Inverleith House. Although the artist is still deciding on what to show, a six- ton boulder with ‘Keith’ painted on it (a weighty memory from his childhood in Edinburgh) is one wine-fuelled idea. ‘They had to support gallery floors for Richard Serra’, says Farquhar. Inverleith House, Edinburgh, Sun 6 Nov-Sun 8 Jan.
I Both Tracey Emin and Jenny Saville have recently released a collection of writings (‘Strangleand’. Sceptre) and a monograph ('Jenny Saville. a monograph’. Rizzoli International), respectively. Whether self-indulgent neurosis-as-art or pure expression filtered through paper. paint and print, both artists continue to develop and shock with their honest portrayals of tortured souls in tortured bodies.
I Jenny Hogarth and Kim Coleman continued their insightful exploration into performance art in the Georgian Gallery at Talbot Rice, Edinburgh on Sat 22 Oct. Light and dark, narrative and abstract actions were brought together in Raiding the Ice Box, where a troop of artists created shadow plays and sublimer climactic scenes. Both Hogarth and Coleman will be developing their already jaw-dropping, simple and affective ideas during a three-month residency in Germany. See review, page 91. I Talks with Anthony d'Offay and the National Galleries of Scotland continue. The Scottish Executive has been looking at a building once occupied by VA Tech in Leith, to store d'Offay's collection of more than 700 pieces of late modernist and contemporary art. d’Offay has contacted various artists and asked them to supply works that will help fill gaps in his collection. and make the package even more irresistible to Bridget McConnell, et at.
