Cover story: Jake Gyllenhaal It launches right in the middle of the New Year silly season. Maybe that’s one reason why Brokeback Mountain is a dead cert for the most hyped film of 2006 award. But the reason this buddy movie has become more of a talking point than King Kong is nothing to do with the fact that it’s directed by Ang Lee; nothing to do with the performances by Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger. It’s because this is the ‘gay cowboy’ movie. The two lucky stars will be riding the publicity nag (bareback, of course) all the way to the Oscars. For Jake Gyllenhaal there’s a second bite of the cherry with a starring role in Sam Mendes’ Gulf war film Jarhead which launches next week. We sent our film critic Kaleem Aftab to meet Gyllenhaal.
