flame Danny Bhoy

“And so you’re back, from outer space . . . Well, not quite. but the Bhoy has had a busy old time travelling around South Africa. America and Australia. before embarking on another tour Down Under in early March. He's only in Edinburgh briefly to try out new material in the intimate setting of the Jazz Bar.

Strewth, that's a lot of travelling Yes. it's all work. work, work for our Danny, but he's managed to pick up a healthy suntan and some amusing tales along the way. Most of it is standard observational stuff, picking on the idiosyncrasies of various nations he's visited. but the material is kept fresh by avoiding the usual cliches. There's less of the soul- searching that we've seen in previous shows and much more of the straightforward laughs. Wow, so he’s managed to travel and perfect a new show at the same time? Almost. The Edinburgh gigs are practise runs. it you like. before he heads off again in the spring. so he's even more tangential than usual. Every story sparks off about five other anecdotes on everything from kangaroos‘ testicles to American football until he eventually remembers his point. Thus the show is over-long but packed with original comedy gems.

So It’s worth the £5 entry then? Definitely. This is a unique chance to see Bhoy at his relaxed best. He genuinely seems to be enjOying himself on stage and it's a much more informal gig than you'll ever see at the country's main comedy festivals.

For anyone who’s seen this bawdy Brummie with

the Glasgow roots perform live, you’ll be less than amazed to discover that in 1998 she won a comedy competition with a character called Harpie. If you’re up for being entertained by a foul- mouthed giggling girl, this is your dame. Check out the photo booth gallery on her website (www.5usan-murray.co.uk). Could that really be

Mackenzie Crook and Harry Hill?
