owadays. dancing the night away in a lield with
a load of like-minded people means that you
are more likely to be outside the dance tent at a l'estiy'al than at an illegal party. (lone are the days when you danced all night. a pill cost £25 (it lasted for two days. mind) you hugged complete strangers and. bleary eyed. you saw the sun come up as the doors were thrown open in some old disused wareltouse at 9am. Not only did they make for great nights. but they say'ed a lot ol‘ hassle. You know how complete random strangers always seetn to end up back at your flat alter a night out. drinking all your boo/e. ruining your floors with their kitten heels. falling down your stairs and puking in your plant pots'.’ Well. that didn’t happen as much in the late 80s and early Ulls as warehouse parties filled the Void that crap house parties haye reclaimed.
There was a brief glimmer ot‘ anti-establishment hope a couple ol‘ years back in Glasgow when two or three illegal dancing dens got people excited again (no need to name drop in case those loy'ely' l’olk decide to start them up again) but alas the authorities and a t'ew less than smart punters ruined it for as all lone such cleyer punter building a website and giying out the name and address ot~ one of the places didn‘t helpl. With decent Venues becoming harder and harder to lind. maybe this is the type ol~ party that needs a resurgence. Something to put the excitement back into clubbing. ()r are we aimlessly grasping at straws trying to reclaim a time

One man who knows more than most about all things warehouse is Mr .'\lc\ l’e Win. DJ and warehouse party organiser. who takes his more intimate party style to the l'niyersal this month. \Vin’s not entirely cony inced that we can ey er go back. but he dclinitcly bclieyes that we can build on the warehouse party ethos. ‘You can‘t recapture it but you can carry on a l'eeling that can't be lost and that's a nice space with a great sound system and people l’ecling a part ol' something. I like to hay e a party that people l'eel special at and people can meet and really bond and make l'riends and also hear

moody or the bar has to take a certain amount or
money or the sound sy stem is not good and the owners don't care about it. .-\ll these issues do allch how your night goes and makes an impression on those who really want to dance and leel the nuisic. DIY. you can haye more control and people can l'eel more relased to be themselyes.'
