TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT King's Theatre, Glasgow, touring coo

Whether you’re watching them on TV or passing them in the street. everybody wants to be someone else. To walk a mile in their shoes and see life through a different set of eyes. But what if you could take someone else’s footsteps? Would it really make you happy?

When young garage worker Stuart (Ryan Molloy) strikes a deal with the Devil to swap his soul for Rod Stewart‘s, he soon realises it takes a lot more than a little charisma to win the woman of his dreams.

Written by best-selling author Ben Elton and set on Andrew Howe-Davies’ versatile set, this musical has potential. Leaning on Stewart‘s extraordinary musical success this piece, directed by Caroline Ranger, has enough musical gems to see it through the dodgy storyline. Molloy is suitably charming as the lovably eccentric Stuart and his vocal performance would make old leather legs proud. Rachel Tucker plays the loving Mary well and Jeff Edwards is sharp as trippy Stoner. The story stumbles a little but Stewart’s songs soar to the heights of the theatre and invoke real emotion, from the jigging Baby Jane’ to the crushing ‘I Don't Want to Talk About it'. A good chance for a singalong and a reminder of why the mullet still reigns supreme. (Julia Morgan)
