Background Ducastel was born in Lyon and Jacques grew up in Montpellier. The former made a short film Le Gourde Plaire in 1989. but neither of them started making features until they met in the mid-90$. Their first was Jeanne and the Garcon Formidable about a gay AIDS victim’s last six months alive. This was followed by gay comedy Drole De Félix in 2000 and Ma Vie in 2004.
What are they up to now? They've just made Cock/es and Muscles (Crustacés et Coquillages). their fourth film together. starring Valeria Bruni- Tedeschi, Gilbert Melki and Jean- Marc Barr. The comedy. set on the fabulous Cote D'A2ur. is about a father who's convinced his son is gay. It could not be more French it it was a baguette and a rosary of garlic. There's even a kitsch song and dance number.
What they say about secrets 'Secrets are essential for storytelling. If there are no secrets. there is no story. Something has to be discovered for stories to work. even if it is not always called “a secret”. although I don't think we have any seCrets that we keep from each other. We are just finishing a script that is more dramatic. where a character uncovers a secret related to a house.’
Interesting fact The directing duo originally wanted to shoot the film on the west coast of France because they didn't want it to become a total French cliche. But the regional government of the Cote D'A2ur was the first to say yes. so the action moved down south.
