DOUBLEGOOD?

The Aphex Twin’s rare appearance at Triptych is one of the real events of the festival but just what do the other artists performing think of electronica’s most revered son? Henry Northmore investigates.

Wolf Eyes, fast rising American noisemongers and support act at Aphex’s Barrowland show. ‘That video wrth the faces and limo ['Windowlicker'] is crazy. Never seen a rock star's hairy face put onto a swrriisuit model before. that's an impact. Heard some cra/ / stories about llllll, he sounds like a total hoot loony nut. Didn't he record in a vault on acid or something? I also heard a story once that a label was bugging him about a remix. paid him a bunch of dough and they came over to his studio and he just grabbed a random CD and said “here it is!" That's pretty cool. Hope he puts some evil spells and magic rocks into his blender and grinds the day away. away . . .'

Jackson Fougeraud of Jackson and his Computer Band, the French master of funky techno, is a recent signing to Warp Records. t 'He has definitely influenced

my ltlUSlC. He can control how a tune sOurids and make it distinctive. I think he Just goes further into what is gorng to give a special character to a track. I don't think anyone understands how he deals wrtli the industry. it must be part of his character.‘

Everything I have heard by hrrn l have eriioyed on some level or another. As an Approved Drivrng InstructOr I would love to assess his skills at doing a three—point turn in his tank.‘

Lush, minimalist micro-electronica artist and Creeping Bent signing, Colditz. ‘I haven't heard that much. l haven't really listened to much muSic for the last five years Lots of my friends think he's great though.‘

Acoustic acid-folk quartet, Found. 'Apliex Twrn claims that he has trained himself so that he no longer needs sleep but only a short period of relaxation in a darkened room. To be honest. he scares me. He is ii legendary figure and there's no doubt that he's produced some of the most inspiring experimental electronic musrc of the last twenty years. Personally I'm not a huge fan of his mu8rc anymore. although I loved the recent orchestral interpretations by 'Alarm Will Sound'.‘ I Aphex Twrri plays Barrow/arid.
